High Junk Peak Country Trail

Hong Kong is one of those cities where you just want to be outside exploring. Blu and I decided it was time to get back to nature, so decided to hike the High Junk Peak Country Trail. This is a 3 hour 6.5KM trek with stunning views over Clear Water Bay.

Getting there was pretty easy, take the MRT (Metro) to Tseung Kwan O, then exit the MRT in the direction of the bus terminal, where you get the 103M Minibus, (frequency around ever 20 mins).

The bus station is clearly signposted at the MRT

You can show the driver that you are going to the Ng Fai Tin (Bay View) stop. There are 2 stops, one for the bay and the other for the walk. So your options are swimming or walking, not too difficult. Make sure you either have change for the bus (around 8.5HKD) or your Octopus travel card.

This trail is rated as medium level as there are steep steps throughout the walk. There is cell phone reception through-out, you will meet other hikers and model glider enthusiasts on route.

The bus stop, at the start of the hike, the steps upwards mark the beginning of the hike.

At the end of the trail you arrive at a road, you can only turn left. Follow this along until there is a turning to the right, it is sign posted for Po Toi O Chuen Road. Follow this all the way down (around a 10 min walk). Here you will get the number 16 bus back to Tseung Kwan O.

We completed the hike within the 3 hours, fueled on a couple of tuna sushi triangles and 1 litre of water. During February the weather was wonderful, windy at the peaks, warm through the forest. As you can see by our attire we are not really kitted for scaling Everest or anything like that, trainers jackets and camera.

We highly recommend this hike to anyone visiting Hong Kong, its extremely easy to get too and provides a wonderful distraction from the busy streets. Your beer at the end of this will taste so much better, followed by a great nights sleep.
