Dutch Pies in Shanghai

By Monday, June 23, 2014

Apple pie is Pace's favorite desert and I, well, I love pies. We decided that along our journey we are going to try apple pie in every country we go to.

In China, where our journey begins, we did some research here and there and we came across a place called Dutch Pies in Shanghai. There we met the owners of the place, Vicky and Roel, the baker, who brought his family's recipes from the south of Holland to China.

We knew we were there with one mission: try the apple pie. But there were so many distractions, such as fudge chocolate pie, banana toffee pie. We just had to try it all. Plus, we got to sample their best seller for free, the delicious rice pudding pie.

Much to the the delight of Pace we found out they had his favorite beer, Duvel.

Between one pie and another we got to know a little about Roel and Vicky and Roel's journey, cycling from Europe to Southeast Asia, which was wonderful to hear, as that was the direction we were heading to a few days later.

The Grandmas's Apple Pie was delicious, as were all the other ones we tried. We had a great time there with amazing pies and nice company. If you are looking to sample one of the best pies in Shanghai, this place should be on your list.
